Running Physio in Hove & Brighton

Pace Physio is a running physiotherapy clinic in Hove for runners across Brighton, Hove, Portslade and Shoreham. We find what's causing your pain, treat it, and give you a clear plan back to running, with rehab in our own gym. An initial assessment is £65 and you don't need a GP referral.

We're runners ourselves, so we understand how frustrating it is to be told to "just rest". Our approach combines expert assessment, objective testing and strength-based rehabilitation, with a clear plan so you know what to do and when you can run again.

You don't need to be fast, or even a regular runner. We work with beginners, parkrun regulars, club runners, trail runners and marathon and ultra runners alike.

Running injuries we treat

Most running injuries come down to a mismatch between the load your body is handling and what it's ready for. We find which part of that equation has gone wrong, then fix it. We regularly treat:

  • Runner's knee (patellofemoral pain): pain around or behind the kneecap, often worse on hills, stairs or after long runs.

  • IT band pain (ITBS): sharp or aching pain on the outside of the knee or hip.

  • Achilles tendinopathy: stiffness and pain at the back of the heel or lower calf, especially first thing in the morning.

  • Plantar fasciopathy (plantar fasciitis): heel or arch pain with the first steps of the day or at the start of a run.

  • Shin splints and bone stress injuries: pain along the shin that builds with training and needs careful load management.

  • Hamstring and calf injuries: strains, tendon pain and tightness that keep returning.

  • Hip, groin and lower back pain that shows up when you run.

  • Persistent or recurring niggles that settle with rest but come back as soon as you start training again.

Not sure what's causing your pain? Book an assessment and we'll work it out. For a quick read on whether to rest, self-treat or get help, see our guide: Should you rest, self-massage or see a physio? Struggling with a sore Achilles? Read why rest alone isn't the answer.

What happens at your first appointment

  • Your running story. We ask about your injury, your training and what you're aiming for.

  • A thorough assessment. We look for the root cause, not just where it hurts, and measure your strength and movement so we can track your progress.

  • A clear plan. You leave knowing what to do, how to adjust your running for now, and an honest estimate of how many sessions you're likely to need. We don't book you in for appointments you don't need.

Treatment and rehabilitation for runners

Hands-on treatment can ease pain, but lasting recovery usually comes from getting the injured area stronger and your training back on track. Your plan may include:

  • Strength-based rehabilitation: progressive exercises matched to the demands of your running, supervised in our gym and rehab space.

  • Training advice: how to keep running where it's safe, adjust your weekly load and build back up without flare-ups.

  • Soft tissue and massage techniques to reduce tension and ease symptoms.

  • Medical acupuncture (dry needling) for muscle tension and pain, alongside your rehab or as a standalone session.

  • Sports taping for short-term support while you recover.

  • Race and goal planning so your recovery lines up with your next event.

With full access to a private rehab gym and treadmill, we can work through the whole progression, from first exercises to return-to-running drills. Our rehab and strength training sessions are open to anyone who wants to stay strong and injury-free

Gait analysis and Stride Strong

Want to know what's behind a recurring niggle, or get stronger before a race? Stride Strong is our in-depth running assessment: we look at your running form, strength and mobility with advanced testing equipment, then build you a bespoke strength plan. You don't need to be injured to book. If you are injured, a running physio appointment is the best place to start, and we can build parts of Stride Strong into your rehab.

Questions runners ask

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You can book directly with us.

Do I have to be a serious runner?

No. We see beginners, parkrun regulars, club and trail runners, and marathon and ultra runners.

Can I keep running while I'm injured?

Often you can, with changes. We'll tell you where it's safe to keep running and how to adjust your weekly training so you can build back up without flare-ups.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on your injury and how long you've had it. Most of our clients see a real improvement within 3 to 6 sessions, and we'll give you an honest estimate at your first appointment.

Can I use my health insurance?

Yes, with WPA, AXA, Aviva, Healix or Bupa, using a pre-authorisation code. With other insurers we can give you a receipt to claim back the cost.

Do you only treat runners?

No. Running is our specialism, but we treat all sports and everyday aches and pains too.
