Pace Physio is a specialist sports physiotherapy clinic in Hove, helping athletes and active people across Brighton, Hove, Portslade and Shoreham recover from injury and return to sport with confidence.
Our background is in sports physiotherapy, and we've treated everyone from weekend warriors to Paralympians. We know how much your sport matters to you, so our aim is to minimise your time away from it. We'll find out why you got injured, rebuild your strength and use objective data to decide when you're ready to return, which also reduces your risk of getting hurt again.
Whether you play at a local club, train at the gym or compete at a high level, you'll get a clear plan and expert care in a clinic with its own gym and rehab space.
Pace Physio was founded by Tom Harrison, a former senior NHS physiotherapist.
Sports injuries we treat
We have a wealth of experience helping people recover from common sporting injuries, including:
ACL tears and reconstruction: rehab before and after surgery, building back strength and confidence for cutting and pivoting sports.
Meniscus injuries: from sudden twisting injuries to gradual wear, with or without surgery.
Achilles tendon injuries: tendinopathy and ruptures, with a progressive loading approach.
Tennis and golfer's elbow: pain on the outside or inside of the elbow that limits your grip and swing.
Rotator cuff and shoulder pain: affecting swimming, racket sports, throwing and gym training.
Hamstring, groin and calf strains: common in football, rugby and sprinting sports.
Ankle sprains and instability: getting you stable and confident on your ankle again.
Tendon pain and overuse injuries that build up with training.
Muscle, ligament and joint injuries from contact sports, falls and training mistakes.
Don't see your injury listed? Get in touch. If it's related to sport or exercise, there's a good chance we can help.
If running is your sport, visit our running physiotherapy page.
Objective testing and return to sport
Returning too soon is one of the biggest causes of re-injury, and waiting too long costs you fitness and confidence. We use data, not guesswork, to decide when you're ready.
Handheld dynamometer testing: we measure the strength of key muscles, compare your injured and uninjured sides and retest as you recover, so you can see your progress.
Progress benchmarks: we agree clear targets for strength, movement and function that you need to hit at each stage of rehab.
Sport-specific criteria: we check you can handle the demands of your sport, such as jumping, cutting, sprinting, throwing or swimming, before you return.
A staged return: we plan how to bring you back into training and competition in a way that reduces the risk of a repeat injury.
Treatment and rehabilitation
Every sporting injury is different, so your plan is built around your injury and your sport. Common treatment options include:
Strength and rehabilitation exercises, progressed in clear stages based on the demands of your sport.
Sports massage and soft tissue techniques, which are particularly useful straight after surgery or when there's a lot of tension.
Medical acupuncture (dry needling) to ease muscle tension and pain.
Sports taping for support while you return to training.
Load and training advice to keep you active where it's safe.
